Modern Desk and Book Shelf Set

For the desk, it’s all black walnut veneer on the shell and top. The drawers are just simple birch 9 ply with soft close ball bearing glides. The legs are turned down from some heavy black walnut pieces I had in stock. The legs ended up being around a 3-1/2” or so circumference pre sanding. I grain matched them as best I could. The desk is 5 feet x 3 feet high x 30” deep with about 12” rise from the ground.

The lower bookshelf cabinets are the same black walnut veneer mdf. Interior shelves are adjustable and the doors are all soft close. The upper shelving is a design we use with solid Aluminium rod 5/8” thick. The brackets are a laboratory style made from machined aluminum.

Just dry fitting everything before clamping

If you make everything square your drawers will open and close perfectly.

Starting point for the black walnut dowels. I think it’s roughly 18/4 or so thick

Desk is drying up and time to work on the bookshelf bases

Soft close hinges and simple cabinet construction. The bottom feet are 2” of black walnut so I can match the desk design and keep the bases off the floor.

Just showing the difference in color the clear oil adds. It really brings them to life and shows the grain.

Had to save some space for another project.

Tried to book match doors as best as I could. Door alignment might be off in the picture as I’m not sitting flat on the dolly. I was adjusting one of the feet.
